What Is USDA Organic Certification?
USDA Organic certification allows processing facilities to represent products as organic. Any business that handles food can be certified as organic, but must follow a list of regulations outlined by the USDA and WSDA. These regulations typically outline how food is grown, stored, processed, packaged, and shipped to consumers.
General guidelines state that entities must:
- Avoid synthetic chemical inputs
- Source goods from farmland that has avoided chemical input for at least three or more years
- Keep detailed production and sales records
- Maintain strict rules separating any organic materials from non-organic items
- Be subject to regular on-site inspections
At Joe’s Garage Coffee, all organically labeled items have at least 95 percent organic ingredients, and everything we use for organic products — including cleaning materials, storage facilities, and handling equipment — adheres to these strict guidelines.
