Controlling for Consistency: A Guide to Caffeine Content

Though different palates prefer different roasts, buyers expect the same taste and caffeine levels each time they purchase their chosen blend from your brand.

Consistent caffeine content is one piece of the quality control puzzle, and it comes down to a few factors that span the entire coffee production process. Learn more about how Joe’s Garage Coffee works to create consistent batches for your business.

The Factors That Affect Caffeine Content

Although the average 8-ounce cup of coffee has between 80 and 100 mg of caffeine, these levels depend on three main factors:

  • Bean type: There are two main bean types. Used in 62% of the world’s coffee production, Arabica beans typically have less caffeine and a smooth taste. Robusta beans have about 50 to 60% more caffeine
  • Roast level: Beans are roasted according to three main categories — light, medium, and dark. Light roasts have marginally more caffeine than darker roasts.
  • Brew method: This part is up to the customers. Water temperature, grind size, and steeping time all affect the levels of caffeine in the cup.

The trick with coffee production is to create batches that have those consistent levels of quality when it comes to beans and roasting, even through variations in each season’s harvest. Joe’s Garage Coffee uses standardized processes to accomplish this goal year after year.

How Joe’s Garage Coffee Produces Caffeine Consistency

At Joe’s Garage Coffee, we source, roast, and quality test our products to make sure your batches are standardized. First, we work with you to craft your perfect blend. Then, we lock in your coffee specifications to produce consistent batches every time.

1. Expert Sourcing

The first step in consistency is sourcing or finding the best beans. At Joe’s Garage Coffee, we source single-origin beans from locations like Costa Rica, Brazil, and Mexico. Each location boasts consistent notes that can be blended to create your brand’s flavor profile.

If you have already found the beans you’re looking for, our expert roasters can toll-roast them to perfection.

2. Blending and Precision Roasting

Once we have the beans, we create a blend and roast them. In addition to your single-origin beans, you can add in our house blends, like a light roast from South America or a medium roast from Colombia. Strategic blending allows you to craft coffees with distinct flavors and caffeine levels that can be reproduced again and again.

Whether you’re looking for a light or dark roast, our streamlined process and 50,000-square-foot facility with state-of-the-art equipment ensure a consistent roast every time.

3. Certified Quality

Quality products lead to better, more consistent coffee. At Joe’s Garage Coffee, we hold to the highest standards to ensure high-quality products for you. Our roasting facility holds third-party certifications including:

With excellent roasts every time, we can help ensure your product’s consistency as it reaches the shelves.
