Our Process

At Joe’s Garage Coffee, we’ve spent more than 20 years perfecting our private-label coffee roasting and packaging services. During our time in the specialty coffee industry, we’ve served thousands of happy clients worldwide. We follow a precise co-packing process that allows us to deliver consistent results in a reasonable time frame. Here’s the process we follow:

  • Consultation and submission. First, you’ll send us your roasted coffee, along with its preferred brewing instructions, specifically the preferred coffee-to-water ratio.
  • Sensory evaluation and brewing. Our experienced sensory panel utilizes standard Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) cupping protocol to brew and sample your coffee, documenting its flavor, fragrance, aroma, taste profile, body, acidity, and cup quality.
  • Sample packaging and feedback loop. We produce coffee samples and keep them in-house to control consistency and ensure every product meets your specified standards before sending them to you for tasting. We will also communicate production guidelines for our roasting and packaging experts.
  • Final production and packaging. Finally, we will create preproduction samples and send them to you for tasting. Based on your feedback and the specifications from our sensory panel, we produce samples until you’re satisfied before moving into the final production stage.

Co-Packing Coffee Solutions

Contract packing, or co-packing, services involve a private-label company taking your roasted beans, brewing coffee to assess its flavor, and converting the roasted beans into packaged samples.

Ethical Coffee Co-Packing Solutions

Sustainability initiatives help your company and customers reduce their environmental footprint. Ethical coffee co-packing involves adopting eco-friendly practices that include fair treatment and compensation for farmers and workers in the processing plants. These practices protect the ecosystems and appeal to sustainability-conscious customers.

You can make your coffee more sustainable by ensuring your co-packing partners have appropriate sustainability certifications that demonstrate their dedication to ethical business practices. Developing eco-friendly coffee packaging — such as reusable or compostable cups for Keurig and recyclable pods for Nespresso — promotes mindful consumption habits that protect the planet.

Packaging Options

At Joe’s Garage Coffee, we carry out all our co-packing processes in our modern facility, which is equipped with the most innovative machines to take your freshly roasted coffee to the next level. Our product and market knowledge enable us to package your coffee to deliver consistent quality and create an excellent return on your investment. Here are some of the coffee packaging options we offer.

Cups for Keurig

You can trust us to package your roasted coffee into cups for Keurig that work well with all single-serve coffee machines, including the Keurig 2.0. Our cups contain ground coffee in a plastic container with a filter. Because cups for Keurig are single-use, we recommend recyclable, compostable, or reusable options. The following are some more sustainable options:

  • Recyclable cups for Keurig. These are made from #5 plastics that are easy to recycle through Keurig’s mail-back recycling program called K-Cycle.
  • Compostable cups for Keurig. These cups can be completely broken down into soil in a matter of weeks. End users may need to send them to a special composting facility.

Pods for Nespresso

Nespresso lovers have high standards. Our pods for Nespresso have a recyclable capsule and lid, making them appealing to environmentally-conscious consumers. They also have a high oxygen barrier capsule to protect your coffee and keep it fresh.

Compostable Soft Pods

Compostable coffee pods disintegrate naturally to enrich the soil. They are made of materials with a minimal environmental impact. At Joe’s Garage Coffee, we offer soft coffee pods that are BPI® certified. Our one-cup coffee filter pods are wrapped in a high-oxygen film and flushed with nitrogen to preserve the coffee’s quality and freshness. These environmentally friendly pods offer superior convenience because they don’t require separating the filter, cup, and lid when composting. They’re an affordable option that is easy on your pocket and the environment.

Being more open to the air than plastic cups for Keurig ensures these pods retain stronger aromas for longer. The biodegradable paper design makes them soft, flexible, lightweight, and compatible with any single-serve coffee machine.

Traditional Bags and Portion Packs

We also provide high-quality portion packs for retail and wholesale distribution. These shelf-ready traditional bags and portion packs come in custom-printed and generic packaging options. We can help you process minimum orders of 100 pounds of coffee or a maximum capacity of 10 million pounds annually.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance ensures your products meet the highest quality standards. A coffee co-packer with the right third-party certifications proves their commitment to consistent product safety and quality. At Joe’s Coffee Garage, we have taken the necessary steps to certify our facility:

  • SQF Certification. The Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification demonstrates an ongoing commitment to food safety management systems and products.
  • USDA Organic. Our USDA Organic Certification allows us to label organic products as containing at least 95% organic ingredients.
  • Fair Trade. This certification proves that all the workers and farmers who grew and worked on processing the coffee receive a fair wage for their services.
  • Kosher Check. The Kosher Check Certification assures customers that the products are made cleanly, safely, and purely.
